Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that the government has agreed to allow a special withdrawal of RM10,000 by contributors from their Employees Provident Fund (EPF).
The decision was made based on comprehensive research and studies on Malaysians who are still impacted economically, have lost their income and are rebuilding lives.
The permission for the withdrawal enables contributors with urgent needs to resolve important matters.
Private executive, Nizam Mohamad, 34, said that it is a relief for contributors as not all Malaysians have recovered from the pandemic situation, especially with the addition of other matters such as the upcoming school session and children pursuing their higher education.
“For me, it was a relief when the Prime Minister announced the much-awaited news.
“The extra money will also aid the local economy.”
A school clerk, Mohamed Arifin Azmi, 30, also expressed relief. He planned to use the money to repair his damaged house.
“Several household appliances were also damaged during the storm at Simpang Pulai, such as the refrigerator. I wish to purchase a new one for the family, especially now that Ramadan is approaching.
“For low-income employees like me, the permission for EPF withdrawal is a blessing,” he said gratefully.
Meanwhile, EPF in a statement informed that the application for this withdrawal is open to members under the age of 55 beginning April 1.
The deadline for application is on April 30 while the payment period will be carried out beginning April 20.
