The Ipoh City Council (MBI) addressed the issue of the disruption in rubbish collection especially at the areas of Manjoi, Meru, Puncak Jelapang and Klebang involving several obstacles faced by the contractor.
According to a statement from the MBI today, the contractor, Majuperak Utilities Management Sdn Bhd (MUMSB) has been facing a lack of manpower since April 2022.
The shortage is following many among the employees choosing to work in the construction sector.
“MUMSB is currently making the effort to look for replacements with a salary offer as high as RM80.00 a day. However, not many are interested to accept the offer as the construction industry offers a higher daily rate.
“The unexpected threefold increase in the amount of rubbish is due to the long Raya holidays in addition to the organisation of open houses and wedding feasts.
“These factors cause a disruption in rubbish collection at several areas around the city especially at Manjoi, Meru, Puncak Jelapang and Klebang.
To overcome the problem, MBI has taken immediate actions such as appointing a temporary contractor to aid MUMSB, appointing additional employees for rubbish collection works, directing MBI cleaning personnel to help out and purchasing four new garbage trucks which are expected to arrive in June.
With the implementation of the actions, it is expected that 90% of the rubbish collection operation at Manjoi, Meru, Puncak Jelapang and Klebang will be resolved gradually.
MBI expressed deepest regret for the inconvenience caused by the delay in rubbish collection.
“The council also expresses gratitude for the cooperation of Ipohites especially those at affected areas for providing information and overcoming the issue together with the council during the festive season.

Very sad to hear such kind of excuses given by the relevant authority. These kind of problem should have subsequent measures to overcome immediately and not wait until situation becomes controllable. There are places not in your named areas are badly affected. The main department’s who are responsible should have investigated the appointed private waste disposal companies to avoid such incidents. Ipoh is a city status town in Persk and it is a disgrace to have such news. This blatantly means that relevant authorities are not doing their work.
