Residents of RPT Pekan Lama Tanjung Rambutan which is located in the Ulu Kinta State Assembly (DUN) constituency will receive benefits when the work to upgrade the drainage system in the area is completed.
The area was often hit by flash floods during a downpour.
Ipoh City Council (MBI) Zone 2 Councilor, Puteri Holijah Muhamad Rali said her party expressed gratitude to MBI, the district Public Works Department and the District Officer’s Office for their involvement in the initiative.
According to her, the gratitude extends to the Penghulu Office, Village Development and Security Committee (JPKK), Irrigation and Drainage Department and the parties involved.
“Seeing the face of one of the residents, Mak Cik Peah, who was so happy when I informed her that the application to upgrade the drain had been approved and the work has already been carried out.
“Hopefully, with the upgrade of this new drainage system, it can prevent flooding in the area when it rains,” she said during a survey recently.
Kampung Pekan Lama is believed to have been opened in the 1950s and has five original village houses only while the surrounding area is developed with housing estates.
In the meantime, a survey was also conducted at
Lorong Dewan 2 after receiving complaints from JPKK and residents of Batu 6 DUN Ulu Kinta.
It was due to the leveling of land near the housing project area. The matter was not agreed upon apart from the fear that it would damage the road there when completed later.
“I have met with resident representatives and contractor representatives for immediate action to resolve this issue.
“I will extend this problem to the MBI for the next step,” she said.
