With its objectives to educate the public on the importance of keeping Malay heritage alive, Perak State Public Library held a talk about preserving Nadir books and Malay Manuscripts at the library recently.
While books or any printed materials are called Nadir if they were published before 1950, Malay Manuscript is a selected written piece in Jawi (before the usage of the Roman alphabet, words in Malay language were written in Jawi) that tells about the history of the Malay community.
Officiating at the closing ceremony was Perak state executive councilor for education, science, environment and green technology, Dato’ Dr Haji Muhammad Amin bin Haji Zakaria who congratulated the effort taken by Perak state library.
“I hope the public will appreciate the exhibition held here because it is important to know about the history of our Malay heritage,” he said.
The talk was attended by over 50 participants from college libraries, academic libraries, museums and schools from all over the country including Perak, Johor and Sarawak.
