Condition of Old Mosque at Kampung Kuala Dal to be Monitored

The state government has asked the Kuala Kangsar Municipal Council (MPKK) and the National Heritage Department to review and monitor the condition of the Ihsaniah Iskandariah Mosque, otherwise known as the Old Mosque, located at Kampung Kuala Dal.

Executive Councillor for Housing, Local Government and Tourism, Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Dato’ Mohammed Radzi said that her party views the issue of the 90-year-old mosque, which was claimed to have been left unattended and even rotting in some parts, seriously.

“This is actually an issue we are facing with the Heritage Department, as some assets are placed under the care of the department and not the state government.”

“However, this does not stop the cooperation between the two parties. I have asked the MPKK to see if it can help the Heritage Department to aid the situation.”

“At the moment, the Heritage Department has been asked to review and see what works need to be done.”

“This is because the restoration work can only be done by experts who are knowledgeable about the architectural heritage of the building,” she said.

She said so at a press conference after attending a town hall discussion programme, ‘Towards Safe Tourism in Perak’ and the launch of the Perak Police’s Tourism Unit yesterday.

The mosque was built in 1936 and funded by the late Sultan Iskandar Shah, the 30th Sultan of Perak. A plaque at the mosque recorded the inauguration taking place on 11 February 1938.

This mosque was no longer being used in 1976, after a new mosque, Al-Wahidiah Mosque, was built.
