The Many Medical Privileges of Blood Donors
Blood donors are national assets and heroes, as their noble act helps to ensure that the blood supply is always sufficient and safe.
Executive Councillor for Health, Science, Environment and Green Technology, Mohd Akmal Kamarudin said the government shows appreciation to blood donors by offering them various medical privileges.
He urged those who have never donated, especially the younger generation, to come forward to donate.
Donors can also become repeat donors, as they can donate once every three months.
“For donors who have donated for the first time, they are eligible for free outpatient treatment, medical treatment and second class wards for a period of 4 months from the date of donation.”
“If you donate blood twice in a year, you will get a free Hepatitis B preventive injection,” he said in a post via Facebook.
Blood donors are eligible to receive privileges such as free medicines and treatments as set by the Ministry of Health.
He added that these privileges will be continuous as long as the donor is actively donating blood according to the prescribed period.
“For example, donating between 21 to 30 times qualifies a donor for free outpatient treatment, medical treatment and second class ward for a period of three years.”
“Donating between 31 to 40 times qualifies a donor to get outpatient treatment, medical treatment and first class ward for a period of four years.”
“For those who donate more than 50 times, they are given free outpatient treatment, medical treatment and first class wards for 10 years and second class wards for life after 10 years in first class wards,” he said.
As such, Mohd Akmal Kamarudin urged the community to respond to the call to donate blood.
Blood donors are why my mum is able to have a better quality of life. My thanks to all who do this.
