Stay Fit at Rotary Fit Park!

There’s no need to go looking for outdoor gym equipment thanks to the Rotary Club of Greentown. Through one of their community projects, they have installed this facility for your use at the Dr Seenivasagam Recreational Park, otherwise known as DR Park.

Rotary Fit Park gives you a place to work out and stay fit while being draped in the beauty of nature. The club has created yet another way for gym-goers or weekend warriors (people who only exercise on weekends) to do drills for their cardio aside from just jogging or running.

After a sweaty session of doing pull-ups, climbing the bars and other assorted activities; you can unwind in the picnic area tastefully landscaped by the club. As a doctor and a fitness fanatic, Dr. Monesh Pillai, the immediate past president of the club, realised that this effort can enliven our daily monotony as well as raise morale and motivation in this post-pandemic era.

With disease prevention and environment as one of the seven areas of focus of the Rotary Club, he shared, “I noticed that this park had less of a crowd despite it being in the centre of town, despite the area having been revitalised after the adjacent area of Kinta Riverfront was refurbished. When I was in Singapore, I saw most parks had an outdoor gym equipment area and most were fully utilised by visitors.”

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin @ Md Daud said at the launch of Rotary Fit Park on July 25, that having outdoor gym equipment in the park would encourage public participation in healthy activities such as exercise. This initiative can help to rejuvenate the park, which had fallen into disuse. Everyone has to do their part in ensuring that the equipment remain in good condition.

Supporting members that partook in the project were the Jabatan Landskap Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh (MBI), Yayasan Kelab-Kelab Rotary Malaysia (YKKRM), UKM Graduates School of Business MBA students, The Malaysia Medical Association (MMA) of Perak and other corporate donors.

Present at the launch were the president of the club, Sangari Krishnan; Governor of Rotary District 3300, Dr. Krishna Kumar; Chairperson of the project, Jiva Kandasamy; Deputy Dean of UKM, Dr. Mara Ridhuan; Dr. Satkunan Mark and other rotarians.

Rotary is a service organisation which has been around for over 100 years and has played a big part in the eradication of polio. The Rotary Club of Greentown has carried out numerous local and international projects since its establishment in 1994.
