Participation is Free: Festive Activities Galore as Ipoh Parade Celebrates Mid-Autumn in September

Running on the theme “Reunion under the Moonlight”, a 4-day mid-autumn celebration brimming with festive activities will unfold at Ipoh Parade from September 2 to 5.

From art exhibition, workshop, photo booth, demonstration, performance to contest, there will be something for everyone as participation is free.

To begin with, the first day will see a workshop and demonstration of oriental arts and Chinese calligraphy led by The Art Studio and Perak Yuk Choy Alumni Association at 3pm and 6.30pm respectively. Open to walk-ins.

Then, there will be an eco-friendly lantern-making contest complete with prizes totalling RM3450 on September 3 from 2pm. It is co-organised with over 20 Lions Clubs in Perak.

It is divided into two categories: On-Site Challenge (open to 10 to 15-year-olds with each participant to be accompanied by one adult) and Off-Site Challenge (open to all ages in which participants are to complete their lanterns from home before bringing them to the venue to be judged).

To be held on the same day are oriental-themed performances at 5.30pm, exciting LED dragon and lion dance performance at 8pm to be followed by a well-loved lantern parade. The mall is set to distribute about 500 lanterns for free for the parade while walk-ins can also bring their own lanterns to join the fun walk around the mall.

The highlight of the celebration will take place on September 4 featuring 12 elite troupes from all over Malaysia competing in the acrobatic lion dance competition with a whopping RM17200 prize pool. The competition will begin at 2pm. Organised together with the Catholic High School Alumni Association Dragon & Lion Dance Troupe as well as the Hong Teik Lion and Dragon Dance Association, the registration has now closed.

Throughout the 4 days, the Perak Art Society and Faerie Lee Dollsculpture Studio will hold an art exhibition from 10am to 10pm where artworks of different forms and media will be displayed at the mall for the first time.

In addition, visitors can experience the traditional costume photo booth from September 2 to 4 from 12pm to 6pm. Also open to walk-ins are workshops of oriental crafts available on September 2 and 3 from 12pm to 6pm.

According to Alan Thoo, Head of Marketing of Ipoh Parade, the previous mid-autumn celebration of such scale was held before the pandemic back in 2019 with positive response.

“We are glad that we are able to bring back such an event which is meaningful to the community. Our shoppers have started asking about the lantern making and other activities since early of the month,” added Lim Huey Tyng, Assistant Manager of Advertising and Promotions of Ipoh Parade during a pre-event press conference today.
