Chess First Leg Begins
Running for the 7th consecutive year, the Tan Sri Lee Loy Seng Chess Championship series aims to bring chess to the smaller towns in Perak.
Organised by Perak State Chess Association with sponsorship from Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad (KLK), a series of six tournaments are held in different districts in Perak every year. This year, tournaments will be held in Sungai Siput, Bagan Serai, Kampar, Tapah and Ipoh.
The first leg began on Sunday, January 31 at the school hall of Sekolah Menengah Shing Chung, Sungai Siput with a total of 271 players. The participants were a diverse crowd with boys and girls as young as seven and adults as old as 60 from Perak, Kedah and Selangor, respectively.
Present at the tournament were Choong Chee Kong, headmaster of SMK Shing Chung, K Subramaniam, Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad representative and Chan Swee Loon, President of the Perak State Chess Association.

The upcoming Bagan Serai leg will be held on Sunday, February 21 at Kolej Vokasional Kerian.
