Calling coffee lovers! Coming all the way from Northern Thailand, the fresh coffee beans of Doi Chaang village will guarantee to feed your craving for a good cup of joe!
Located at Jalan Medan Ipoh, the humble Doi Chaang Coffee Ipoh began their operation a year ago. There are currently twelve branches of Doi Chaang Coffee in Malaysia; eight in Selangor, one in Melaka, two in Johor and one in Ipoh. The coffee from this cafe is planted, harvested and processed at Doi Chaang, Thailand.
“Back in the 80s, it was such a difficult time for the people in Doi Chaang as the place is situated in the golden triangle of Thailand where they were planting opium and selling drugs. Ever since the King and the government recognised the potential in Doi Chaang to produce good coffee, things are getting better for the Akha tribe, the ones who produce these good coffee beans,” said Jeremy Chan, the director of Morning Jolt.
There are over sixteen different coffee drinks to try such as Caramel Latte Macchiato (RM10.80/RM12.80), Americano (single: RM6.80/RM8.80, double RM7.8/RM9.80), Cafe Latte or customers’ favourite, Ice Doi Chaang (RM10.80). Assorted teas are also available for non-coffee drinkers. The teas are served hot only and ranges from RM8.90 to RM9.90.
Light meals such as bread, salads, pasta and assorted cakes that are baked by Jeremy’s sister are also available at the cafe. Aside from drinks and snacks, Doi Chaang also sells coffee beans, french press and a wide range of Malaysian-made soda called The Tapping Tapir priced at RM10.80 per bottle. There are currently seven different flavours to try. Another Malaysian made product called The Grand Hornbill (100% naturally brewed sparkling iced tea that comes in three different flavours), priced at RM10.80, is also available in the cafe.
