Ipoh’s Tallest Christmas Tree brings Joy to all
By Anne Das
The Church of Our Lady of Lourdes, Ipoh launched their Christmas tree on the 1st Sunday of Advent, 27 November 2022 with the blessing of the tree by Rev. Fr. Robert Daniel. It is the fourth year that the tree has been lighted at the church compound to the delight of the people.
The tree, measuring 55 feet in height was constructed by Mr. Alexander Joseph together with 23 other members known as the Lourdes ELF Team.
The tree has more than 1500 lights wonderfully glowing in different shades at night. The tree is structured and designed in five-tiers with 20ft width weighing approximately 300kg covered with 2808 ft of artificial pine Christmas garlands.
The tree is believed to be the tallest Christmas tree ever to be erected outdoors in Perak. The base of the tree is covered with cement board. The measurements and structural plan was meticulously planned and precisely done to ensure its safety and will stand firm in any climate condition.
The basic design, electrical and decoration was engineered by Mr. Alexander Joseph and assisted by his dedicated members.
It took about 4 months to complete the astonishing tree which cost about RM15,000.00 raised through sponsors and well-wishers. The tree would be illuminated daily from 7.30pm until 12.00am till mid January 2023.
This Christmas will unequivocally be remembered as a milestone moment for the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes Ipoh.
