BVH Wins Green Award at The Edge Property Excellence Awards 2022
1 Lasam, the progressive headquarters of Bonanza Venture Holdings (BVH) in Ipoh, has won The Edge PAM – Green Excellence Award 2022 at The Edge Property Excellence Awards 2022.
The award by the financial weekly is in recognition of 1 Lasam being Perak’s first Green Building Index (GBI) Platinum (DA)-certified building.
BVH director Edwin Tan, who accepted the award on behalf of the Group in Kuala Lumpur recently, said the idea to build a corporate office at 1 Jalan Lasam, which was originally the home of its late founder Dato’ Lim Keng Kay, had come about in the year 2014.
“At that time, the Green Building Index (GBI) rating tool was still relatively new in Perak and there were no green buildings in the state.
“For many decades, our company as a whole has been a pioneer in the many businesses it is involved in.
“The idea of building the first ever GBI Platinum building in the state was to resonate with the continuous endeavour by BVH to be a leader in the community,” Tan said.
Measuring about 30,000sqf, most of the five-storey office block consists of workspaces with ancillary spaces such as conference rooms and gallery spaces.
Besides successfully fulfilling the assessment criteria of energy efficiency, indoor environmental quality, sustainable site & planning management, material & resources, water efficiency, and innovation, to be awarded the highest status in the GBI assessment framework, 1 Lasam has also achieved eight of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals set out by the United Nations.
1 Lasam is sustainable not only through its design but also by its functionality. Taking the “Reduce, Reuse, Repurpose” practice very seriously, all business entities of BVH have contributed and repurposed various materials in the course of making 1 Lasam a reality.
From writing pads of foldable study chairs and broken / off-size marble waste as table tops to cement formwork as planter boxes, as well as turning old tree stumps into garden paths, old and discarded materials have been given a new lease of life at 1 Lasam. An old snooker table has also been refashioned into a meeting table while plants are either propagated or transplanted from other properties within the Group.
Earlier in June, 1 Lasam also won the Silver Award in the Sustainable Development Goal Category of the PAM Awards 2022 by the Malaysian Institute of Architects, or Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM).
“It is our greatest wish that 1 Lasam will become more than just a landmark in Ipoh, that it will become an example of sustainability that others would want to emulate while educating the general public on what green buildings are and their importance.
“Hopefully, there will be more green buildings in Perak in time to come. We are open to sharing our experience with those wishing to do so and are open to having more people visit 1 Lasam in the future,” added Tan.
