Thaipusam: Road closures around Ipoh announced

The Thaipusam celebration in Ipoh, Perak will be held from 3 February 2023 until 7 February 2023.
Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan said one of the main events was the chariot and kavadi procession from Sri Maha Mariamman temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong to Sri Subramaniar Temple in Gunung Cheroh.
“The chariot procession from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Sungai Pari, Buntong to Sri Subramaniar Temple, Gunung Cheroh will start on 3 February 2023 (Friday) at 6.00 pm and is expected to finish on 4 February 2023 (Saturday) at 12.30 am.
“Meanwhile, the chariot procession from Sri Subramaniar Temple, Gunung Cheroh to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong will start on February 6, 2023 (Monday) at 4.30 pm, and is expected to finish on February 7, 2023 (Tuesday) at 10.30 am, ” he said.
Phased diversions and road closures will be implemented during the chariot procession involving the streets from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Sungai Pari, Buntong via Jalan Sungai Pari-Jalan Tun Perak; Jalan Tun Perak-Jalan Lahat; Jalan Lahat-Jalan Perhentian; Jalan Lahat-Jalan Sultan Yusoff; Jalan Sultan Yusof-Jalan Sultan Iskandar; Jalan Sultan Idris Shah-Jalan Laxamana Signal Light; Jalan Sultan Idris Shah-Signal Light Jalan Raja Musa Aziz; Jalan Datuk Onn Jaafar-Jalan Raja Musa Aziz; Jalan Raja Musa Aziz-Jalan Dato’ Ahmad Said and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz-Bulatan Hospital.
According to Yahaya Hassan, the return movement of the chariot from Sri Subramaniar Temple, Mount Cheroh to Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong will go through the same route.
“The kavadi procession from Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, Sungai Pari, Buntong to Sri Subramaniar Temple, Gunung Cheroh will start on 5 February 2023 (Sunday) from 6.00 am until 12.00 midnight.
“Diversions/road closures will also be implemented in stages on roads such as Jalan Tun Perak, Jalan Lahat, Jalan Sultan Yusoff, Jalan Sultan Idris Shah, Jalan Dato’ Onn Jaafar and Jalan Raja Musa Aziz.
“The police would like to advise all road users around the city of Ipoh to plan their journeys and always obey the current instructions from the traffic police officers on the roads involved in the phased diversions and closures during that period,” he said.
