IPOH: Police are actively hunting for a suspect involved in the snatching incident of an elderly woman near Jalan Anggerik, Kampung Manjoi Tambahan, last Saturday.
Ipoh District Police Chief, ACP Yahaya Hassan said today his staff has detected a 33-second video that went viral on social media Twitter, showing a woman being snatched by a motorcycle rider.
“The police statement found that the incident happened on February 25, at about 9.39 am on the side of Jalan Anggerik, Kampung Manjoi Tambahan.
“During the incident, the 63-year-old female victim who was walking on the side of the road had her handbag snatched by a motorcyclist from behind.
“Among the victim’s personal belongings that the suspect ran away with included RM1,500 in cash, a mobile phone and personal documents, but the victim was not injured in the incident,” he told reporters on Monday.
He also said that a police report was also received from the victim and the case was investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code (robbery).
He said that the police are still actively hunting for the suspect who is still at large.
He added that the police also called on members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward and provide information, especially the drivers of the two cars who appear to be chasing the suspect in the video, to come forward to help the police investigation by contacting the investigating officer of the case, Insp. M. Gopirajan at 016-3278390 or present at any nearby police station.
