KAMUNTING: The police successfully busted a yaba pill drug trafficking syndicate after arresting two suspects at a house in the Kamunting area here last night.
According to the Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, as a result of the investigation carried out against the suspect in the house, the police managed to find and seize a total of 14,000 yaba pills or an estimated weight of 1,425 grams.
He also said that the total value of the seized drugs was estimated at RM280,000.
“Acting on information, on March 7 at 11.10 pm, a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Taiping District Police Headquarters, arrested a woman and a man, aged around 34 and 50 years old.
“They are partners in crime and are believed to be involved in drug trafficking activities, a urine screening test was conducted on both suspects and the female suspect tested positive for methamphetamine.
“A criminal record check found that both suspects have a record of past convictions in criminal cases,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
Mohd Yusri said that the syndicate was believed to have been active since September last year and the seized drugs were for the local market.
“The amount of seized drugs can be used by an estimated 14,000 drug addicts.
“Action was also taken under the Dangerous Drugs (forfeiture of property) Act 1988, where the Perak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department seized two vehicles,” he said.
He added that the estimated total value of the confiscated property amounted to RM103,500 and the total value of the seized drugs together with the seized property was RM383,500.
He also said that both suspects were remanded for seven days from today until March 14.
“This case is being investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 if convicted, the mandatory punishment of hanging to death,” he said.
