Another Feather in the Cap for Michelle Yeoh and Ipoh

Ipoh-born actress Michelle Yeoh has been named the recipient of the 2023 Women in Motion award at the Cannes Film Festival, adding yet another feather in her cap. The award, presented by luxury group Kering, honours women who have made significant contributions to the film industry. Yeoh joins the ranks of previous honourees, including Jane Fonda, Geena Davis, Susan Sarandon, Isabelle Huppert, Patty Jenkins, Gong Li, Salma Hayek, and Viola Davis.
In addition to her distinguished acting career that spans over three decades, Yeoh has recently been showered with accolades during the recent awards season, including an Oscar for Best Actress, a Golden Globe, SAG Award, and Spirit Award. She continues to impress audiences with her upcoming projects, including the Disney+ series American Born Chinese, Netflix’s The Brothers Sun, James Cameron’s Avatar sequels, Jon M. Chu’s Wicked, and Kenneth Branagh’s a Haunting in Venice.
Yeoh’s success on the global stage is a source of pride for her hometown of Ipoh, which continues to celebrate her achievements in the film industry. She will receive the Women in Motion award at a ceremony during the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023.
