IPOH: Cases of dengue fever in the administrative area of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) recorded an increase with 472 cases reported until April 22 (Epid Week: 16).
According to the mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, the increase was 265.9 percent compared to 129 cases for the same period last year.
“Until April 26, there are five outbreak localities, namely Halaman Meru Permai (3 cases) expected to end on May 6, Taman Maxwell (8 cases) expected to end on May 2, Kampung Baru Tambun (2 cases) expected to end on May 1.
“Taman Kinta Mas (2 cases) is expected to end on May 2, Taman Camay (3 cases) is expected to end on May 4,” he said.
He said this while presiding over the April Council Plenary Meeting at the MBI Meeting Hall, here today.
He also said that the uncontrolled outbreak involved four localities, namely Halaman Ampang Mewah (15 cases), ending on April 27, Kampung Dato’ Ahmad Said Additional 2 (7 cases) expected to end on May 1.
“Taman Cempaka (7 cases) is expected to end on May 8, Kampung Manjoi (11 cases) is expected to end on May 8.
“The hotspot covers two localities, Taman Cahaya Bercham (24 cases) is expected to end on April 29 and Hillview Park (12 cases) is expected to end on May 1,” he added.
Meanwhile, he said the number of outbreak localities could be reduced in the last two weeks.
It is through the Dengue Prevention and Control Action Plan in the MBI administrative area as well as prevention and control activities with the cooperation of all parties.
“Cooperation from all parties in ensuring the destruction of aedes breeding grounds in and around the home is very necessary to curb the spread of dengue,” he said.
Therefore, the public is advised to spend at least 10 minutes every week to inspect and destroy the aedes mosquito breeding grounds in their respective residential areas.
