TAPAH: Police arrested a 43-year-old man believed to be dealing in drugs and confiscated heroin and methamphetamine in Jalan Banir Air Kuning, late last night.
Tapah District Police Chief, Superintendent Wan Azharuddin Wan Ismail said, acting on information, at about 11.00pm a team of Narcotics officers and members of Balai Air Kuning arrested a man riding a Honda RSX type motorcycle at the location.
“The inspection was carried out on a black zippered sling bag on the suspect’s body and seized Heroin and Methamphetamine drugs.
“The total amount of seized drugs, 161 grams of Heroin and 1.5 grams of Methamphetamine with the total price of the confiscated drugs amounting to RM5,785.
“The suspect has been taken to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of Tapah District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further action,” he said in a statement today.
Wan Azharuddin said the urine screening test carried out on the suspect was positive for methamphetamine.
“A check of past criminal record found that the suspect has six records of drug offenses and was recently released from custody under Special Preventive Measures (LLPK),” he said.
According to him, the total amount of Heroin and Methamphetamine seized could be used by about 200 drug addicts.
“The drugs are suspected to be distributed in the local market,” he said.
He said, this case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, where if convicted, the mandatory sentence of hanging to death can be imposed.
“The suspect has been remanded for seven days from today until May 15,” he said.
