IPOH: Police arrested two men believed to be involved in the distribution of cannabis-type drugs in two separate raids around the Sungai Rokam area in Ipoh.
Perak Deputy Police Chief, Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said, acting on information, a man aged around 39 was arrested during a raid by a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Perak Police Contingent Headquarters at a house in Kampung Sungai Rokam at about about 12.15 pm last night.
“As a result of the investigation carried out on the suspect, the police have found and seized a number of packages and compressed lumps believed to be cannabis-type drugs with an estimated weight of 7.4 kg, seedlings suspected to be cannabis plants and 90 ml cannabis liquid estimated to be worth RM25,547.
“Also seized were equipment believed to be used to package drugs,” he said tonight.
Azizi said that the urine screening test conducted on the suspect was positive for THC. The suspect was found to have no criminal record.
“Action was taken under the Dangerous Drugs (forfeiture of property) Act 1988, where the Perak JSJN confiscated three vehicles, eight watch threads, one chain thread, two bracelets and cash amounting to RM150,000. The estimated total value of the property confiscated was RM699,182.
“The estimated total value of the drug seizure along with the confiscated property is RM 724,729,” he said
He said, as a follow-up to the arrest, at about 1.15am on Tuesday, the team raided a house in Taman Sri Rokam and arrested a 52-year-old man.
“The result of the raid was in finding a compressed lump believed to be a cannabis-type drug with an estimated weight of 40 grams estimated to be worth RM400. The total value of the confiscated drugs is estimated to be RM25,947.
“The urine screening test conducted on the suspect was also found positive for THC. The suspect was also found to have no record of past offences,” he said.
According to him, based on the investigation conducted, the two suspects are believed to have been active in drug trafficking activities since 2021.
“The seized drugs are suspected to be distributed in the local market in the state. It is estimated that the amount of seized drugs can be used by as many as 3,000 drug addicts.
“This case was investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and both suspects were remanded for seven days from May 16 to May 22 to assist the investigation.
He said, this success is the result of continuous cooperation between the community and enforcement agencies, especially the PDRM.
“Therefore, the Perak PDRM calls on the public to continue to channel any information related to drug abuse activities so that crackdowns can continue to be improved to ensure that the state of Perak is free from this crime,” he said.
