Malaysia’s first model cars museum, the Dream Big World located at Ipoh’s tourist hot spot, Concubine Lane, houses more that 500 model cars including James Dean’s Porsche 550 Spyder, Back To The Future’s DeLorean DMC-12 and Queen Elizabeth’s Bentley Bentayga.
The owner of the museum, Elvin Chew, started his collection at the tender age of 12 after having a great time playing and assembling Japan’s famous model kit, Tamiya.
“It began when I had a few Tamiya. Slowly I developed more interest to learn and that was when I decided to start my own model car collection,” said Elvin who recalled it was a Mercedes-Benz model that he first brought to the collection.
Aside from displaying his precious model car collection, visitors can also enjoy reading the history and facts about cars including the story behind the name ‘Mercedes-Benz’ and more. Upon entering the museum, you will be greeted by a Ferrari car mural and 7kg model car of LaFerrari: The first Ferrari hybrid with 963 CV (Constant-Velocity joint).
“I do have a few models that I love and one is the F40 Ferrari. This was the last model developed by Enzo Ferrari, the man behind the brand,” added Elvin as he explained the car’s significant features including being a pure sports car.
Aside from model car collections, Elvin also has a few airplane models that he placed in the middle section of the museum complete with an airport-like ambiance. The third area of the museum sits models of tall buildings around the world.
“It is exciting to see visitors appreciating the information and the display I’ve prepared. Although this is a model car museum, it is more than just that. I want to educate and create more interest,” said Elvin.
The Dream Big World is located at No.7, Level One, Lorong Panglima @ Concubine Lane, 30000 Ipoh. The museum opens every day from 10.30am to 4.30pm and reservations can be made by calling Elvin at 012 516 3924.
