IPOH: A mall’s workers were in momentary shock after receiving an email claiming that there was a bomb threat in the building yesterday evening.
Ipoh District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Yahaya Hassan said, his side received a police report from the manager of a shopping centre in Ipoh that the management received an email from an unknown individual at about 2.56pm stating that there was a bomb threat in the building and asked them to improve security measures.
”The bomb disposal unit (UPB) from the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters has carried out a thorough inspection of the shopping centre building and confirmed that the bomb threat is false.
”The case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code (criminal intimidation offence by anonymous communication).
Yahaya said that in addition, the police’s investigation has succeeded in arresting a local male suspect in Kampar and confiscating a communication device used by the suspect.
“The suspect is a 43-year-old local man who has a history of psychiatric illness and is receiving treatment at the Psychiatry Specialist Clinic of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB).
“A preliminary urine screening test was also carried out on the suspect and it was found that the suspect was not under the influence of drugs,” he said in a statement today.
He said that the investigation of this case has been completed and the investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions.
“The public is advised not to ever provide any false information that may affect public safety and order.
Any speculation that could affect public safety and cause annoyance to the community should be avoided,” he said.
