Community Unites to Support Perak Palliative Care Society at Charity Food Fair

The recent Charity Food Fair organised by the Perak Palliative Care Society (PPCS) served as a powerful testament to the spirit of community and compassion in the Perak region. This successful event brought together individuals, organisations, and volunteers who joined forces to raise funds and show their support for the PPCS’s mission of providing palliative care services to terminally ill patients in the community.
The PPCS, founded in 2004, is a non-profit organisation dedicated to delivering compassionate care to individuals facing life-limiting illnesses, regardless of their background or circumstances. Through their team of professionals and volunteers, the PPCS offers emotional support, medical care, and practical assistance to both patients and their caregivers.
The idea for the food fair arose as a means to create awareness for the PPCS and generate funds for their upcoming move to a new building. Ms. Doreen Kam, Volunteer Coordinator of PPCS, explains, “We wanted to inform the community about our new location while raising funds to support our operations. The food fair provided an excellent opportunity to achieve both objectives.”
The community’s response to the event was overwhelming, reflecting their strong support for the PPCS’s invaluable work. Attendees eagerly arrived at the fair even before its scheduled opening time, demonstrating their anticipation for a day filled with delicious food and meaningful connections. The generosity of the community extended beyond their attendance, with donations and sponsorships pouring in after press coverage brought awareness to the event.
The food fair also served as an educational platform, allowing the PPCS to enlighten the community about the importance of palliative care. Many attendees were surprised to learn about the society’s provision of free palliative care services to cancer patients. Ms. Doreen highlighted this, saying, “The fair provided an opportunity for us to reach individuals who were previously unaware of our society’s presence. It was inspiring to witness their curiosity and desire to learn more about our work.”
As the food fair concluded, Ms. Doreen expressed her sincere appreciation to all the donors, sponsors, and especially the volunteers, all of whom have contributed to the event’s success. “Your support has made a tremendous impact on our ability to provide essential care to those in need. Our patients are blessed, knowing that there are compassionate individuals and organisations who truly care about their well-being,” she stated.
