MANJUNG: The police managed to arrest 35 Indonesian illegal immigrants (Pati) who were hiding in a garden near the Segari area, here at 9.45am yesterday.
According to Manjung District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamed Nordin Abdullah, his side received information from the public regarding a boat stranded on the coast of the Segari area carrying foreigners.
“As a result of the search in the palm plantation area of Segari area, they managed to track down a total of 35 foreign Indonesian citizens consisting of 24 men, 10 women and a boy hiding in the palm plantation.
“As a result of the initial investigation, one of the arrested foreign nationals has successfully led to the arrest of two local men, at a seafood restaurant in Kampung Bharu,” he told reporters on Saturday.
Therefore, he said, the case was classified as human smuggling and investigated under Section 26a Atipsom 2007, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959 and Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959.
He said, all those arrested will be remanded to help further investigations.
He said, the public is advised not to get involved and conspire in protecting the entry of foreign immigrants.
If convicted, can be punished with imprisonment for up to 15 years and can be fined.
Perak Police also requested the cooperation of the public who have information about the incident to contact the Criminal Investigation Officer, Manjung District Police Headquarters, Insp. Muhammad Sollehuddin Rahmat at 013-7908995 to assist with the investigation.
