No Phone, Fax or Wi-Fi

When one moves into new premises, the basic services one expects is a phone line and internet facility. At least that’s what Ipoh Echo expected. Paper work was in order and submitted for the transfer of all these facilities from our old office to the new, and we were assured that all could be done and so we waited in anticipation.

Two and a half months down the road, Ipoh Echo remains without phone, fax and Wi-Fi. One would ask, “How do you operate a newspaper without phone, fax and Wi-Fi?” The answer is, “With much inconvenience!” Ironically, TM bills continue to come with regularity.

We are not talking about some rural under-developed area where there is still no telephone line. No…we are talking about a populated urban housing estate which has a hospital (Fatimah), church, budget hotel, post office, Courts, numerous businesses and a spanking new hotel on the same street.

However, we are not the only ones suffering this fate. IpohWorld, Media Masters and Perak Society for Performing Arts (PSPA) are also in the same predicament as they occupy the premises next door.

Still puzzled as to where this ‘God-forsaken’ place is? We are at 153 (& 151) Jalan Dato Lau Pak Khuan, Ipoh Garden.

So, you may wonder, why don’t we have these services? Your guess is as good as ours.

This is not a case of “Malaysia boleh!” This is a case of “Dulu boleh tapi sekarang tak boleh pula!” (“Before can…now cannot!”)
