Man loses RM200,000 through threats on release of pornographic video

KUALA KANGSAR: A man suffered a loss of about RM200,000 when a woman threatened to spread a video recording of him in an obscene act on social media on Tuesday.

Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that at about 1.49pm, the police received a report from a 30-year-old man who works as a mechanic, stating that he was threatened by a woman (suspect) to make a payment.

According to him, the suspect stated that if the victim refused to pay the suspect would spread the video recording of the victim’s pornographic actions through social media.

“The result of the interrogation found that the victim recognized the suspect through Facebook social media by using the name ‘yaya’.

“The suspect then asked the victim to receive a video call from the suspect with the excuse of wanting to show something ‘special’ to the victim.

“After receiving the call, the victim saw the suspect in a state of nakedness and performing a passionate act on the victim,” he said in a statement here today.

Mohd Yusri said that the victim who was affected by the action also stripped and did indecent things with the suspect.

“The victim did not realize that the action was recorded by the suspect. The victim only realized after the suspect sent the recording to the victim, after immediately ending the call

“The victim was threatened into giving money to the suspect. The victim then transferred money 38 times through online banking to five different owners’ accounts,” he said.

He said the case was investigated under Section 384 of the Penal Code.

He added, therefore, the public is advised not to be easily deceived by individuals who have just become known through social media so that they can influence them to do unexpected things, and then become victims of extortion crimes.
