IPOH: The number of cataract surgeries carried out at the Department of Ophthalmology, Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) here, increased by 30.2 percent which was 3,084 last year, compared to 2,369 in 2021.
In addition, the trend of patients coming to the Ophthalmology Clinic is also increasing with new and repeat cases for 2022 amounting to 64,879 cases, an increase of 18.3 percent compared to 2021, amounting to 54,842 cases.
According to the Perak State Health Director, Dr. Sirajuddin Hashim, the situation proves that the donation in the form of medical equipment coincides with the hospital’s needs for the smooth running of eye treatment services in this state.
“HRPB’s Ophthalmology Department began operating in 1981 and now consists of an Ophthalmology Clinic, an Ophthalmology Operating Room, a Day Treatment Center and an Ophthalmology Ward which is Ward 1A in the Main Building, HRPB.
“The Department of Ophthalmology is a referral center for eye cases from the Ipoh and Kinta Valley areas as well as a referral center for other hospitals throughout Perak.
“This department is generally divided into two parts, namely ophthalmology services and optometry services.
“Several ophthalmology sub-specialty services have been provided, including treatment services for glaucoma, vitreoretinal, corneal, oculoplastic, medicoretinal and pediatric cases,” he said.
He said this during the speech of the Medical Equipment Donation Ceremony of MySuccess Land Sdn. Bhd. With the Cooperation of Ipoh City Council (MBI) to HRPB, here on Wednesday.
Raja Dihilir Perak, Raja Iskandar Dzulkarnain Sultan Idris Shah graced to complete the presentation ceremony.
Also present were, Mayor Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin; Managing Director of MySuccess Land Sdn. Bhd. Heong Seng Loon and Director of HRPB, Dr. Megat Iskandar Megat Abdul Hamid.
Dr. Sirajuddin said various services and treatments are offered by the HRPB Ophthalmology Department.
Among them, outpatient services include making a diagnosis, providing daily treatment, emergency treatment and follow-up treatment for eye disease cases.
In addition, specialized services such as glaucoma and vitreoretinal, diabetic retinopathy screening using a fundus camera as well as retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) screening for babies.
“I also wish to express my utmost appreciation to MBI and the organizing committee as well as all parties involved directly or indirectly in making today’s medical equipment donation ceremony a success.
“We greatly appreciate the support from external parties, especially corporate bodies, in making such a contribution for the smooth running of eye health treatment services in this state,” he added.
The equipment worth RM95,000 was donated by Mysuccess Land Sdn. Bhd.
Mysuccess Land Sdn. Bhd. is a local developer company that develops and advances the township of Bandar Baru Lahat, Eco-City, Ipoh.
