IPOH: The swimming activity of four friends ended in tragedy when one of them drowned in the river at Kampung Orang Asli Sungai Tonggang, Ulu Kinta, here this afternoon.
Assistant Director of the Operations Division of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said, the drowned boy was identified as Santosh Uthaya Kumar aged 18.
The victim is believed to have come for swim in the river with three other friends.
He further said that his side received a call regarding the incident at 5pm, then members from the Tambun Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the location.
He said that the drowned victim was found by Orang Asli residents in the area.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health (KKM) personnel who arrived at the location later confirmed the death of the victim and handed it over to the police for further action.
The operation led by Senior Fire Officer II, Mohd Johari Tomin ended at 7pm.
