IPOH: Police arrested three individuals including a married couple believed to be involved in a drug trafficking syndicate in a raid in Jelapang here last Sunday.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that acting on information, at about 3pm a police team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (JSJN) of the Perak Contingent Police Headquarters arrested a 30-year-old and 27-year-old married couple and 19-year-old woman who lived in the house.
“The results of the inspection in the car in the area of the house found a quantity of drugs believed to be heroin with an estimated weight of 10,713 grams and an estimated value of RM 88,917.90.
“Also seized was equipment believed to be used to package drugs,” he said in a statement here today.
Mohd Yusri said that two of the suspects, a married couple aged 30 and 27, tested positive for morphine.
“While the results of the review found that one of the suspects (husband) has a criminal record.
“Action was also taken under the dangerous drugs (forfeiture of property) act 1988, where JSJN Perak confiscated 22 units of jewelery worth RM82,668, three vehicles consisting of a lorry, a car and a motorcycle estimated to be worth RM109,500.
“The estimated total value of the seized property is RM192,168, while the estimated total value of the seized drug along with the seized property is RM281,085.90,” he said.
He said, based on the investigation carried out, this syndicate is believed to have been active in drug trafficking activities since September last year.
“The seized drugs are believed to be distributed in the local market in the state of Perak. It is estimated that the amount of seized drugs can be used for 15,000 drug addicts,” he said.
He said this case was investigated under Section 39b of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
“Two of the suspects (husband and wife) were remanded for six days from 24 July 2023. While one suspect (younger sister of the female partner) was remanded for three days from 24 July 2023 to assist the investigation,” he said.
