“Emily of Emerald Hill” Headlines ACS Ipoh’s ‘Evening of Grace’

In a celebration that marries education, art, and philanthropy, Anglo Chinese School (ACS) Ipoh invites residents of the community to an enchanting event, “An Evening of Grace.” This event marks the momentous 128th anniversary of ACS Ipoh, a renowned Methodist Mission School with a rich legacy of empowering students from all walks of life, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Mark your calendars for Friday, 4th August 2023, at 7.30 pm sharp at the ACS Ipoh Auditorium on Lahat Road.

Prepare to be captivated as the talented Pearlly Chua takes on the iconic role of Emily in the compelling play, “Emily of Emerald Hill.” Directed by Mr. Chin San Sooi, an Old Boy and former teacher with an undeniable passion for the stage, the play is a monologue steeped in Peranakan tradition. Since its first performance in 1984, it has been re-enacted an astounding 233 times, each time leaving audiences spellbound. The presence of the esteemed playwright, Ms. Stella Kon,will add an extra layer of significance to this extraordinary evening.

At the heart of this occasion lies the tribute to the late Mr. Chin Yoong Kim, a cherished teacher who touched the lives of countless students. His enduring passion for music and drama continues to inspire generations, and “An Evening of Grace” aims to support the late Chin Yoong Kim Commemorative Fund. This heartfelt endeavour seeks to provide essential support to underprivileged students, offering bursaries, meals, learning aids, tuition fees, and musical accessories for a span of 7 years.

The evening holds a historical significance as it also marks the 97th Anniversary of ACS Ipoh’s illustrious stage traditions, which commenced in 1926 with a Shakespearean play. This celebration of artistic heritage is a testament to the school’s enduring commitment to nurturing young talent in the performing arts for many decades.
