IPOH – The Ipoh City Council (MBI) is now mandating the provision of covered trash bins for all trading and industrial/commercial premises within the entire administrative area of the council.

The Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, stated that business premise owners play a vital role in creating a clean and comfortable environment.

“Each of them is obliged to provide sufficient covered trash bins according to the quantity of waste generated and the specifications set at their respective premises.

“This condition is incorporated into the approval requirements for business premises licenses to facilitate waste collection operations.

“Premise owners are also responsible for ensuring that the trash bins are well-maintained and in good condition.

“Starting from January 1, 2024, MBI will enforce this directive at all business premises throughout Ipoh City, based on the Trade, Business & Industrial (MBI) 2017 Act, the Small Food Establishment (MBI) 2017 Act, and the Small Waste Collection, Disposal, and Management (MBI) 2017 Act,” he said in a statement to the media yesterday.

If business premise owners fail to comply with this directive, a compound of RM500 or not exceeding RM1,000 will be imposed.

Rumaizi added that from August 1, 2023, until December 31, 2023, all business premise owners are expected to cooperate in providing trash bins at their respective premises.

“A 120-litre wheeled trash bin can be purchased at the MBI Urban Services Department, located at Jalan Sungai Pari, 30100 Ipoh, at a rate of RM95.00. For further information, please contact 05-2411022,” he said.
