KUALA KURAU – The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (Maritime Malaysia), through the Kuala Kurau Maritime Zone, organized a ‘Sembang Santai’ (Casual Chat) program with members of the Fishermen’s Association in the Larut and Matang district area.

Commander Maritime Mohd Najhan Azman Hamid, Director of the Kuala Kurau Maritime Zone, stated that the program held at the Matang Fishermen’s Association office aimed to foster a stronger bond between Maritime Malaysia and the local fishermen.

The program successfully enhanced the relationship between both parties, serving as a platform for hearing the concerns of the fishermen while simultaneously discussing the best possible solutions.

Among the topics discussed was the expansion of collaborative programs with the local community, assistance in sea search and rescue operations, and the regulation that only registered and licensed boats are allowed to engage in fishing activities.

A total of 10 representatives from the Fishermen’s Association, including its Chief Executive Officer Norzahanim Halim Shah, attended this program.

In addition to the dialogue, a safety briefing was also conducted to raise awareness about the importance of safety at sea.

Maritime Malaysia continually advises fishermen to adhere to safety aspects at sea, such as wearing life jackets and other safety equipment.
