A boat overturned in Teluk Batik, 7 safe, 2 nearly drowned

MANJUNG: Nine tourists, including two crew members, faced moments of panic as the boat they were on capsized at Teluk Batik beach here today.

Assistant Director of Operations of the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, stated that following the incident, seven of them managed to save themselves, while the other two were on the brink of drowning.

He further mentioned that they received an emergency call regarding the incident at 10:58 a.m., prompting members of the Manjung Fire and Rescue Station to rush to the scene.

“The team arrived at the location and found a recreational boat carrying tourists capsized.

“There were nine people on board, including two crew members. Two of them, a 17-year-old male teenager with disabilities and a 24-year-old woman, were in distress. However, they were successfully rescued by the public.

“The other seven, a 31-year-old man, two teenage girls (15 years old), a young boy (6 years old), a young girl (3 years old), and two men (boat crew), managed to swim to the beach and are safe,” he told reporters on Monday.

He mentioned that the male victim who almost drowned regained consciousness after receiving CPR assistance from the public and was taken to the hospital by the fire department.

As for the female victim, she remained unconscious and was attended to by personnel from the Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH).

“It was found that the woman still had a pulse and she was taken to the hospital by a MOH ambulance,” he said.

The operation concluded at 12:15 p.m.
