KUALA LUMPUR – The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) will launch a special module next month to address the issue of bullying among school and university students nationwide.
Deputy Chief of Police, Datuk Seri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay, stated that the module is an improvement upon the Child and Adolescent Crime Awareness Module (Mekar) that was introduced when he served as the Chief of Police in Johor.
He mentioned that the module is designed for all student groups, starting from the primary school level up to the higher education institutions (IPT), and it will also involve university counsellors.
“In a few weeks or a month, we will launch this module nationwide in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (MOE) and others.
“We are currently in the process of revamping the Mekar module that we introduced in Johor in the past but had to halt due to COVID-19,” he added.
Ayob Khan further explained that, for the time being, any bullying-related issues, including cyberbullying, committed by school students will be referred to school liaison officers (PPS) according to the respective districts.
He emphasised that the role of PPS is to monitor safety needs in schools, identify problems, and assist in management before and after a crisis occurs.
“We believe that this module will have a significant impact when implemented across all levels of schools and universities in the future,” he said.
