By Rosli Mansor Ahmad Razali

Ipoh – Breast cancer is a health issue that requires understanding and sensitivity because awareness is the key to effective prevention.

The Fight For Pink, Act For Blue campaign has successfully injected awareness into the community about the importance of early prevention of diseases often dubbed as silent killers.

Dato’ Lim Si Boon, a member of the Board of Directors of Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH), emphasized that the detection and early prevention of cancer is more crucial than treatment.

“This campaign encourages the community to prioritize their health while understanding the risk factors contributing to these diseases. Breast cancer and diabetes are two health issues that should be taken seriously before they worsen.

“In line with that, PCSH is among the private hospitals providing quality healthcare services in line with the advancements in medical technology today.

“The new PCSH building, equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, aims to further enhance the quality of service and customer satisfaction at reasonable rates,” he said during his speech at the Fight For Pink, Act For Blue Campaign at AEON Klebang here today.

The symbolic logo of this campaign combines the ‘Pink Ribbon’ for breast cancer awareness and a blue circle for diabetes awareness, depicting a healthy lifestyle and regular medical check-ups.

The one-day campaign is organized by Perak Community Specialist Hospital (PCSH) in collaboration with Kinta Properties Holdings Sdn Bhd and the International Ipoh Fashion Week (IFW).

Also present were the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin; Director of Kinta Properties Holdings Sdn Bhd, Edwin Lim, and Chief Executive Officer of PCSH, Nicholas Chan.

After inaugurating the campaign, Dato’ Lim Si Boon also presented Free mammograms and Ultrasound Breast Vouchers to five NGOs and Comprehensive Health Screening Package Vouchers worth RM30,000 to another five NGOs. Both contributions represent 200 recipients.

Meanwhile, the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, said the two-in-one campaign was effective in providing early awareness of breast cancer and diabetes.

“This is the best initiative in providing a deeper knowledge of both of these chronic diseases. It can also encourage the community to learn about healthy dietary habits through various activities.

“Excessive consumption of non-nutritious foods can lead to chronic diseases and health risks.

“Such campaigns help the community take proactive steps to take care of their health and that of their families,” he said.

The campaign also offers various free health screening services, including blood pressure, blood sugar, body fat, fitness, vision, and health education.

The campaign also provides visitors with the opportunity to make hair donations for cancer patients, managed by the Hairdressing Skills Development Organization led by Creative Director, Khakjaksa Khalil.
