IPOH – The choir team of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) was declared the winners of the Local Authority Choir Competition, the YAB Menteri Besar Perak Darul Ridzuan Cup for the year 2023, held at the Indera Mulia Stadium this afternoon.
The MBI choir team, consisting of 28 members and led by Hairil Anwar Amirusin, delivered an outstanding performance by presenting a medley of four songs, including ‘Bahtera Merdeka’, ‘Nyalakan Tekat’, ‘Happy No Problem’ and ‘Durian Dah Berbunga’.
The champions received a cash prize of RM3,000 while the runner-up, the Tanjung Malim District Council was awarded RM1,500 and the third-place the Taping Municipal Council received RM750.00.
The Municipal Council of Manjung secured the fourth- place with a prize of RM600.00. All participating teams were also presented with certificates and trophies.
Additionally, the MBI choir team clinched the title of the Best Performance category earning them an extra cash prize of RM500.00.
The prizes were presented by Mazlan Abd Rahman, the Head of WHIP (Wellbeing, Health, Infrastructure, and Public Amenities) at the Ipoh City Council.
Meanwhile, in his inaugural address, the Mayor of Ipoh, Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, highlighted that the organisation of this championship holds the potential to make a significant impact on the development of choir activities in Malaysia.
“Today’s Choir Competition is one of the initiatives aimed at promoting artistic activities and enhancing the performance of our choirs, aligning with MBI’s vision to make Ipoh a city of the arts.
“As such, the council encourages various artistic endeavours in this city including aspects like singing, painting, music, crafts, and more,” he stated.
