KUALA KANGSAR: A man is feared to have drowned after falling from a boat while fishing in Kampung Sungai Jarau, Kati, last night.
It is understood that the victim, known as Mohd Faiz Azman, 33, was swept away by the river while preparing to fish in Sungai Perak.
According to the Deputy Director of Operations for the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Perak, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, they received information about the incident at 9:51 PM last night, and rescue operations continued today.
“A briefing on the search was conducted in collaboration with other agencies, and the operations commander has requested assistance from the K9 Tracker Unit.
“The search activity covered a 1-kilometer stretch from where the victim was believed to have gone missing, using ‘surface searching’ and ‘follow the stream’ methods by the involved agencies, divided into three smaller groups.
“A request for a 60-horsepower aluminum boat was made due to strong currents, with assistance from the Sungai Siput Fire and Rescue Station,” he said through statement here today.
Sabarodzi mentioned that a total of 55 individuals were involved in this search operation.
The agencies involved included JBPM (9), Civil Defense Force (7), police (7), RELA (4), and members of the public (28).
Furthermore, the logistics included 18 boats, with JBPM (2), Civil Defense Force (1), and members of the public (15).
