Besides becoming the first to host an event at the brand new Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC), the Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (PCCCI) 110th anniversary dinner was also the largest indoor dinner in Ipoh with a total of 2200 guests coming from all over the world.
Held Thursday, July 27, it kicked off with a food and culture fair running on the theme, ‘Since 1907s’ which saw the old streets and trading market of the olden era being replicated in the hall.
There was an array of entertainment for the grand affair with the Sam Tet Secondary School award-winning brass band performing the opening number.
The guest of honour was Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri DiRaja Dr Zambry Abd Kadir. Present were Datuk Ter Leong Yap, president of Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia; Dato’ Liew Sew Yee, president of PCCCI; Dato’ Seri Ong Ka Chuan, Second Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mayor Dato’ Zamri bin Man and Tan Sri Lee Oi Hian, chief executive officer of Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad.
“Another great event to be jointly organised by PCCCI and the state government is the Ipoh International Food and Beverage Fair in April 2018. We target to attract 300 exhibitors to participate, out of which 110 are from abroad,” said Dato’ Liew Sew Yee.
“Perak today is very different from when PCCCI was first founded, be it economic activities or social norms. Nevertheless, PCCCI’s successive leaders have remained committed to its founding principles of leading the business community in exploring new opportunities and markets, thus contributing to the nation’s economic growth and development,” Datuk Ter Leong Yap stated.
“This is a historical night. First of all, PCCCI is celebrating its 110th anniversary. Secondly, ICC is open for the first time ever for this huge dinner. Thirdly, the chosen date ‘27-07-17’ surely symbolises an auspicious meaning. Fourth, the cultural expression tonight is both entertaining and meaningful. It is also quite significant, reflecting 1907. Fifth, it coincides with the Visit Perak Year 2017,” Zambry enthused.
