KAMUNTING: One woman died, while two others were injured, after a palm oil-laden lorry collided into the back of a double-decker tour bus at Kilometer 200.4 of the North-South Expressway in the southbound direction today.
Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, Deputy Director of Operations of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) in Perak, said the accident also involved four other lorries.
He stated that they received a call about the incident at 11:33 am earlier today, and members of the Kamunting Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene.
“Six passengers on the tour bus are safe and have been transferred to another bus to continue their journey.
“The accident also involved four lorries, one of which had a casualty, while the other three from different lorries are safe.
“A woman from the palm oil lorry was confirmed dead at the scene, and two others in the same vehicle, a man and a female child, were injured,” he said in a statement here today.
In this regard, he mentioned that the operations chief directed the size-up work and the removal of the victims from the vehicles.
He said the deceased victim was handed over to the police for further action, and monitoring of the lorries was also carried out to ensure there were no factors that could lead to a fire.
