The Baha’i faith is a religion established in Iran in 1863 by Baha’u’llah, who believed he was the prophetic fulfilment of Babism, a small religion which believes in a single, incomprehensible God; this makes the Baha’I faith a monotheistic religion.
The Spiritual Assembly of the Baha’is of Malaysia hosted a dinner at Tandoor Grill on Saturday 18th of September for invited guests, as a lead to its upcoming event, expected to be bigger and involving many, to be held later this year. This is to commemorate the 200th year birthday of its founder, a much venerated person within the Baha’I community.
“We’ve classes for children between the ages of five and ten, junior youth classes and study materials for adults,“ said Mr Vijaya Segaran, the senior head of the Baha’i community. “We look after the youths whilst educating ourselves; finding out what and why we’re here on this Earth and as a result, we serve the community.”
The Baha’I community in Malaysia has participated in blood donation campaigns, charity drives and tree-planting activities in Ipoh. “This is in line with what we believe in,” said Segaran.
The upcoming event, an auspicious Baha’I bicentenary dinner, will be held on Sunday, October 22 at the Red Crescent Hall, Ipoh. The occasion will be laced with various festivities, celebrations, dances and exhibitions that not only showcase the culture of the Baha’is, but also the many different cultures of the world.
Moreover, the President of India and the Prime Ministers of New Zealand and Singapore had given their utmost congratulations, according to the members.
“We’ve invited MB Perak but have yet to receive a response,” said Tan Boon Tin, the secretary of the Ipoh Baha’I community. “We hope he’ll be able to grace the event.”
