IPOH: Fogging operations to combat adult mosquitoes were carried out in the city of Ipoh in the early mornings since last October, said Ipoh Mayor, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.
According to him, the fogging to kill adult mosquitoes is carried out based on advice from the District Health Office (PKD).
“We refer to and receive advice from the PKD; the Ipoh City Council (MBI) only assists. If the Health Department suggests fogging in the morning, then we will fog in the morning, and vice versa.
“It started last October; fogging was done around 5 a.m. Perhaps the PKD had reasons for doing it at that time; maybe there were many mosquitoes in the morning and so on.
“For everyone’s information, MBI is only the implementing party, but all recommendations come from the Health Department,” he told reporters here recently.
Meanwhile, Rumaizi added that MBI is taking more aggressive measures to combat the increasing cases of dengue fever.
“We have increased fogging in dengue hotspots, and awareness programs for Ipoh residents are organized.
“This includes community efforts, tackling illegal dumping, and it has been reduced by 90 percent,” he added.
Asked why dengue cases are on the rise in this city, he explained that it is related to the Movement Control Order (PKP).
“One reason for the sudden increase is that in 2021 and 2022, there were fewer cases following the PKP. When there’s less communication, and people stay at home, cases decrease.
“But now everything is back to normal, and waste has increased, hence the percentage has risen,” he said.
