IPOH:The inspection and investigation at the premises suspected to be engaged in gambling activities without a license in Taman Rishah here revealed that it is no longer operational and has been closed.
The District Police Chief of Ipoh, ACP Yahaya Hassan, stated that on Sunday, a video went viral on social media showing a group of men accusing the staff of a convenience store of engaging in gambling activities without a license.
“On December 17, the Ipoh Police became aware of a 1 minute 47 seconds viral video on social media depicting a group of men confronting the staff of a convenience store for suspected involvement in such activities.
“However, the date and time the video was recorded are unknown, attracting public attention,” he said in a statement on Monday.
He further explained that the premises in question had previously faced police action, including arrests and power supply disconnection.
“For your information, the premises shown in the video have been identified, and police investigation found it non-operational and closed.
“Nevertheless, monitoring and intelligence gathering on this premises will continue based on the circulating information.
“In addition, the Ipoh District Police found that illegal gambling activities of this nature frequently change their operational tactics and relocate to confuse law enforcement.
“However, this modus operandi will be continuously monitored by the police,” he added.
He also informed that in 2023, a total of eight raids and successful captures were conducted in the Taman Rishah area.
The police took action under Section 21a (1) of the Open Gambling House Act 1953, where premises engaged in gambling without a license had their power supply cut off.
At the same time, he mentioned that the group of men involved in the viral video has been identified, and they will be called in to assist in further investigations regarding the gambling information.
“The Ipoh District Police welcome information from the public through the Ipoh District Police Headquarters Control Center at 05-2542222 to ensure Ipoh is free from organized gambling activities,” he said.
