IPOH: The Ipoh-Langkawi flight route remains temporarily suspended, contingent upon several factors to be evaluated before it can be resumed.
The decision ultimately lies with AirAsia, the airline responsible for operating flights on this route.
Currently, AirAsia and Flyscoot are the two airlines operating at the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport (LTSAS) in Ipoh.
Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the Perak State Tourism, Industrial, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee, stated that certain considerations need to be addressed before deciding to resume flights.
“As I mentioned before, the Ipoh to Langkawi flight route from LTSAS is only temporarily suspended and not terminated. So, the decision to resume flights depends entirely on AirAsia as the operator. There are various factors, including demand, ticket prices, available aircraft inventory, time constraints, routes, and more,” he explained.
Sze Yee made these comments in response to questions from Ipoh Echo/ Peraktastic regarding the potential reopening of the Ipoh-Langkawi route in conjunction with the Visit Perak Year celebrations.
However, Sze Yee mentioned that they have sought clarification on this matter from both AirAsia and LTSAS.
AirAsia introduced the Ipoh-Langkawi route in December 2020, offering three flights per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. Return flights from Langkawi to Ipoh also operated on the same days, with some flights recording a high passenger count of 164 individuals.
The air journey from LTSAS to the legendary island takes approximately 55 minutes.
