IPOH: The police are actively tracking down individuals involved in the arson incident that resulted in the burning of vehicles owned by Beruas Member of Parliament, Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, at his residence in Ayer Tawar, Manjung, early this morning.
Perak Police Chief, Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, stated that at 2:55 am, the Manjung District Police Headquarters received a call from the Parliament Member reporting a fire involving three vehicles.
“The fire incident involved a Mercedes Benz, along with two Honda CRVs affected in the rear bumper area.
Additionally, the right side of the body and the front part of a Toyota Hilux were affected. At the scene, a bottle suspected to have been a Molotov cocktail was also discovered,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Mohd Yusri mentioned that as a result, the case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code (arson) and will be thoroughly examined from various angles.
He further detailed that efforts to identify the individuals involved are ongoing.
The police also advised the public not to engage in any speculations that could jeopardize the investigation.
Individuals with information are urged to contact the Investigating Officer, ASP Mohd Azalan Ab Karim, at 019-3927837 to assist in the investigation.
Earlier, media reported that three vehicles owned by Beruas Member of Parliament, Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham, were destroyed in a fire at his residence in Semarak Jaya Lane, Taman Semarak Jaya, Ayer Tawar, early Wednesday.
Assistant Director of Operations for the Perak Fire and Rescue Department, Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad, stated that the vehicles involved were a Mercedes, Honda CRV, and Toyota Hilux.
He mentioned that emergency services received a distress call at 3:05 am, leading Ayer Tawar Fire and Rescue personnel to the location.
