IPOH: Another premises selling counterfeit mobile phones was raided by authorities in an operation to combat the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods.
This time, a premises on Jalan Kampar was inspected by the enforcement officers of the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) through Ops Tiru.
The Director of KPDN Perak, Datuk Kamalludin Ismail, mentioned that this action was in response to a complaint from a representative of the trademark owner regarding the sales.
During the inspection yesterday at 11:15 am, it was found that the premises not only repaired these phones but also wholesale supplied various brands of mobile phones to shops around Ipoh.
“Examination revealed 1,360 mobile phone units, all suspected to be using incorrectly applied trademark labels.
“The company’s trademark representative confirmed that the premises violated the Trade Marks Act 2019,” he said.
Initial information also suggests that the supply of these mobile phones was suspected to be obtained through a supplier company in the capital.
The mobile phones, sold at prices ranging from RM40 to RM90, are popular among older users due to their ease of use compared to smartphones.
A 55-year-old local man, suspected to be the owner of the premises, has been arrested to assist in the investigation.
All goods suspected of having incorrectly applied trademark labels and related documents have been seized for further investigation.
The estimated value of the confiscated items is RM54,400.
