IPOH: The Maximum Price Scheme for the Chinese New Year Celebration Season 2024 will be implemented from February 6 to 14 to prevent increases in the prices of essential goods.
It involves 11 types of goods regulated under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011.
The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDN) has announced that actions will be taken against any traders who fail to comply with these regulations.
“The eleven regulated items include white prawns, white pomfret fish, live pigs, pork including belly and fat.
“Additionally, imported round cabbage (excluding Indonesia and China, not including Beijing), imported potatoes (from China), garlic, imported old ginger, white radish, and red radish,” he said.
Under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011, errant traders can face fines of up to RM100,000, imprisonment, or both.
They can also be compounded up to RM50,000.
Additionally, fines of up to RM10,000 or compounding of RM5,000 may be imposed for the offense of failing to display price tags.
