TAPAH: Two Thai men were arrested by the Enforcement Division of the Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk) after being found conducting unauthorised donation collection activities in the rest and service area (RnR) of Tapah Surau, on the North-South Expressway (PLUS), on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Enforcement Division of JAIPk said the capture was accompanied by a team of enforcers from the Tapah District Islamic Religious Office on the PLUS highway there, heading north and south.
He further stated that both men had repeatedly engaged in this behaviour, despite being advised and warned previously.
“Previously, both of them were advised and warned twice to obtain permission from the Perak Islamic Religious Council (MAIPk) before conducting donation collection activities.
“Unfortunately, these warnings and admonitions were ignored, and they stubbornly continued to collect donations without following the proper procedures,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, he said, during the arrest, a sum of money totaling more than RM900 was found as a result of the donation collection made.
Also found were two packets of green-coloured water believed to be kratom water in one of their bags.
As such, he said, the case is being investigated under Section 43 of the Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 1992 for the offence of Unauthorised Donation Collection, which carries a penalty of a fine of RM3,000 or imprisonment or both.
