IPOH: The recent takeover of Syuen Hotel by YTL Real Estate Investment Trust (YTL REIT) is expected to enhance the image of the city of Ipoh and attract more visitors.
This was expressed by the Mayor of Ipoh, Datuk Rumaizi Baharin, who also noted that the addition of an international chain in the hotel industry will be a new attraction here.
“In the hotel business, there needs to be an international chain. YTL will take over and collaborate with the international company, AC Hotels by Marriott.
“With the presence of this international chain, it will enhance the image of the city, which is important for promoting tourism.
“In addition to Hard Rock Cafe in Ipoh, Marriott also holds a significant name in the tourism industry,” he said on Thursday.
In addition, he expressed hope that Ipoh will become an international tourist city.
“We hope that in two or three years, Ipoh will become an international tourist city on par with Penang, Melaka, and Sabah,” he said.
Previously, the media reported that YTL REIT had signed a sale and purchase agreement with Syuen Hotel Bhd to acquire Syuen Hotel in Ipoh, for a cash consideration of RM55 million.
The property to be acquired consists of a leasehold land and the hotel building, along with its assets, which is a 13-storey building with 290 rooms categorized as a four-star hotel.
