LUMUT: The economic development of Perak is set to accelerate with the groundbreaking ceremony of Lumut Maritime Terminal 2 (LMT2) at Batu Undan, Segari.
The Lumut Port, currently handling bulk cargo and shipping logistics services, will undergo significant enhancement through the establishment of LMT 2.
LMT 2 marks the initial step towards the Lumut Maritime Industrial City (LuMIC) initiative, poised to make a substantial impact on the economic development of Perak. This aims to position Lumut Port as a leading bulk cargo terminal operator in Southeast Asia.
A total expenditure of RM362 million has been allocated for the period 2016 to 2026. Out of this sum, RM282 million, or approximately 78% of the expenditure, is earmarked for the development of LMT 2.
The establishment of LMT 2 is expected to enhance operational efficiency and capacity in handling bulk minerals to meet global demand.
It is anticipated to create over 500 job opportunities and foster the development of supplier networks and businesses within the maritime sector.
The inauguration and groundbreaking ceremony of LMT2 were officiated by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.
