IPOH: Anticipated price hikes in Ramadan bazaars this year may not materialize, as traders are expected to maintain current prices for the convenience of customers.
Despite earning modest profits, traders are prepared to uphold these prices amidst the current economic climate.
Chairman of the United Entrepreneurs Association of Ipoh (PUBI) in Perak, Sharul Abd Rahman, stated that many traders find themselves absorbing rising costs.
According to him, weather conditions also contribute to fluctuating returns at times.
“I don’t foresee any price increases; prices will remain the same, albeit with smaller profit margins.
“So, traders will absorb the significantly increased costs of goods for now. We’re just adapting to the current economic situation.
“We only hope for good weather during Ramadan, as daily earnings could be affected, especially on rainy days.
“If the weather is favourable, InshaAllah (God willing), the Ramadan bazaar will be bustling, with a large influx of buyers helping to cover costs and generate profits,” he told Ipoh Echo/Peraktastic.
This year, PUBI has been entrusted by the Ipoh City Council (MBI) to manage two Ramadan bazaar sites, namely in Taman Temara and Station 18 near the AEON Mall shopping centre.
According to Sharul, PUBI oversees 90 business lots involving 57 entrepreneurs.
“The response from visitors at both Ramadan bazaar locations last year was very positive, and we believe that opening these two locations makes it easier for the local community to prepare for breaking fast.
“These two locations offer a variety of delicacies, including hot meals for visitors,” he added.
