4,000 celebrate Vaisakhi Day in Buntong

IPOH: The celebration of Vaisakhi Day, which falls on 14th April, was enthusiastically welcomed with nearly 4,000 people attending prayer ceremonies at Gurdwara Sahib Buntong.
The three-day Vaisakhi celebration began last Friday and concluded on Sunday.
Vaisakhi is one of the major festivals in the Sikh calendar commemorating the establishment of the Khalsa in 1699.
It also marks the beginning of the harvesting season according to the Punjabi and Sikh community calendars.
According to a Sikh devotee, Jaspreet Kaur Gurnam Singh, various religious ceremonies and traditions were carried out during the three-day celebration.
It also brought together relatives and friends who joined in celebrating this special day.
“During these three days, there are ceremonies called ‘seva’, which involves serving food to all who come, washing dishes, and so on.
“I am very happy to attend the prayer ceremonies here because I will meet relatives and friends who live far away.
Meanwhile, Ek Jot Singh Lekhpal Singh said that activities during the celebration included reading and chanting verses from the holy book.
“We organized a community cleaning activity to clean and decorate Gurdwara Sahib Buntong.
“I am happy and proud to see many young people coming here to celebrate Vaisakhi,” he said.
The Secretary of the Gurdwara Sahib Buntong Committee, Habagan Kaur Chancal Singh, said that the state government also contributed funds for the celebration there.
Besides contributions from the Buntong State Assemblyman and Sikh devotees.
“The celebration and the attendance of the Sikh community were lively throughout the three-day celebration at this gurdwara; we hope it will continue for the coming years, people of all ages attend to celebrate this special day,” she said.
